Crystal Palace Manager Frank de Boer Eyes Striker, Goalkeeper

Crystal Palace manager Frank de Boer is still looking to improve his club, specifically the depth behind striker Christian Benteke.

“If some players get injured we are a bit narrow,” De Boer said (h/t ESPN FC). “A striker behind Christian, we don’t really have, we are looking for that.”

Crystal Palace is also on the lookout for a goalkeeper, with names such as Roma’s Lukasz Skorupski and Tottenham reserve Michel Vorm being rumored.

“We have a list of goalkeepers who can be suitable for us but right now we are focusing on Swansea.

“We are hopeful of getting players in before deadline; if not, we will prepare the best we can and we have enough experience in this squad.”

The transfer window closes on Thursday and de Boer anticipates the activity to ramp up.

“My phone will be charged to 100 percent,” De Boer said.

“That’s why I have two telephones. Hopefully we will get some players but it’s not a worry right now, now it’s Swansea then we will think about it.”

De Boer welcomed the arrival of former Palace manager and striker Dougie Freedman as director of football.

“We had two small sessions together, focusing on the game,” he said. “We have more time to spend together also deadline day we will work hard together. He looks like a very nice guy.

“I always have a very good relationship with a sporting director. They are more involved with player agents — it’s the right thing that I’m not concerned with agents. From there he can pass something to me he thinks is important.

“I have my ideas about players but he does too. He knows the club history, the philosophy. I think it’s good that someone like him is the sporting director. It’s a plus that somebody who knows the club [is in that position], someone who knows the training ground and people here.”
