Danny John-Jules was forced to confront Strictly dancer James Jordan after he called his 80-year-old mother who suffers from Alzheimer’s “miserable”.
James took to Twitter on Saturday to say that Danny’s mother looked “as miserable as him”, and Danny understandably took offence to somebody criticising his close family member.
He hit back at James: “So you take the piss out of an 82 YO woman with Alzheimers #BigMan .”
James – who had earlier suggested that Danny wasn’t “nice” on social media – deleted the tweet and replied: “I just stated facts… said what everyone was thinking. Not attacking anyone.
“She did look miserable when the camera was on her, but I’m sure she is a lovely lady. No malice intended. But everyone gets offended over everything nowadays.”
He had been ribbing Danny on Twitter for much of the evening’s performances.
At first, he said: “Aww look at Danny trying to show us how happy and nice he is,” with a crying-laughing face emoji, indicating he was being sarcastic.
Then he added: “Danny I don’t like him and I don’t like his dancing. It was ok…. but it’s so awkward because he’s dance trained in another style and won’t let go. He can’t control it, and I believe he thinks he’s better than he actually thinks. Still an ok job, and I LOVE Amy!”
Danny and Amy were then awarded a score of 27 for their Latin number leaving them floundering at the bottom of the leaderboard.
It comes after a difficult week for the couple who became embroiled in the latest Strictly scandal.
Danny appeared to suggest the BBC are bullying him after a string of stories emerged portraying the actor as a hot head who constantly rows with his partner.
Amy denied he reduced her to tears by bullying her, insisting: “He’s been nothing but lovely.”
Amy, 27, said of the Red Dwarf star, 58: “Things did get a little intense the other day in rehearsals. Do you know what? We took a half-hour break and then got straight to it. I never felt bullied or threatened by Danny.”
“He thanks me every weekend and so does his partner Petula.
“I think we have a family relationship and Petula says she sees me as part of the family.”
