Johnny Depp is making a return to the big screen in the upcoming 18th-century piece ‘Jeanne du Barry’, which opened last May at the Cannes Film Festival and is set to hit theaters from May 2nd through May 6th before landing on Apple TV+ later on.
Depp will play France’s King Louis XV in the French language film that officially marks Depp’s comeback following a few years of drama in Hollywood highlighted by his 2022 defamation trial against ex-wife, actress and model Amber Heard.
According to the official synopsis: “Jeanne uses her charms and intelligence to climb the social ladder step by step. She becomes one of the favourites of King Louis XV and falls madly in love. Against all convention, Jeanne moves to Versailles.”
“Johnny Depp stars as King Louis XV in the story of the entrancing Jeanne du Barry (Maïwenn), a French peasant woman whose meteoric rise through the royal court to become the King’s last mistress creates a scandal of epic proportions. Based on a true story.”
